About Erin

I'm passionate about mental health and dementia care, with over 10 years of experience supporting people across government services, the mental health sector, and private practice. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide variety of people, helping them build confidence, independence, and joy in daily life. I love what I do—whether it’s running therapy groups, providing individual therapy, or exploring what motivates each person to reach their goals. Creativity is at the heart of my work and my life. As a passionate dancer and artist, I bring energy and imagination into my therapy, drawing on my background in teaching horse riding, painting, taekwondo, and dance. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with organisations such as the Starlight Foundation, East Metro Mental Health Service, and North Metro Mental Health Service. These experiences have shaped my practice and deepened my commitment to helping people live meaningful, connected, and independent lives.

Making a Difference

One of the most meaningful moments in my work was creating a sensory group that made a real difference in a client’s life. She shared that the group kept her out of hospital, helped her stay stable and well, and gave her a reason to get out of bed in the morning. It reduced feelings of worthlessness, increased her hope for the future, and taught her practical skills she needed to pursue employment. This experience highlighted the power of therapy groups to bring lasting change and build a sense of purpose.

Approach to Therapy

At Erin Banerjee Occupational Therapy, the focus is always on the person first. Every client is unique, and therapy is tailored to their individual needs, strengths, and goals. Building trust and connection is at the heart of the approach—taking the time to listen, understand, and create a safe space where clients feel valued and supported. Collaboration is key. By working closely with clients, their families, and support teams, therapy becomes a shared journey that empowers people to take meaningful steps toward greater independence and wellbeing. The aim is not just to provide therapy, but to ensure each person feels heard, respected, and encouraged as they move toward the life they want to live.

Staying Up-to-Date

To stay at the forefront of occupational therapy, especially in mental health and dementia care, I attend events, have regular supervision, do regular training, have a thirst for new knowledge and do a lot of reading about current practices.
